Methods of Surface and Interface Analysis  

(MN-C-P-PC)

In this lecture I give an overview over a variety of measurement techniques that are useful to characterize materials regarding their bulk, thin film, or surface properties. These include e.g. Scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, core level spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction etc. Whenever possible I will relate to our (or published) current research and show examples of data collected in our laboratories.

We will cover a range of topics relevant for the research in Physical Chemistry. These will include basics of quantum mechanics, Boltzmann distribution, electronic structure of molecules and solids, electronic transitions, laser, vibrational / rotational / Raman spectroscopy, selection rules, as well as statistical thermodynamics and its application

Solar Energy conversion

The lecture is part of the Physics curriculum (Condensed Matter Physics) and introduces different concepts how solar energy can be harvested as well as the physical concepts behind the devices.
